ELKINS – Recently celebrating their 60th graduation anniversary were 40 classmates of the 1957 class of Elkins High School along with their 27 guests. The fun-filled weekend started the evening of July 21 with an informal gathering at the home of classmates Dale and Pauline Newlon. Co-Chair Larry Ferguson was recognized by the group for his leadership and for his recent installation as the Sovereign Grand Master of the I.O.O.F. The group enjoyed the evening with casual conversation and food catered by Beanders of Elkins.

The historic Graceland Inn on the campus of Davis & Elkins College was the site for the July 22 evening formal buffet. Toastmaster Larry Ferguson welcomed attendees. Co-Chair Sharon McQuain recognized classmate Delores Flint from Utah for traveling the farthest, Loren Chenoweth for least changed and Blaine Corrick for first reservation received. To honor deceased classmates, a candle light memorial tribute was conducted by Carol Fretwell and Barbara Simmons. Ferguson announced several other door prize winners and the remainder of the evening was spent in reminiscence and laughter.

Connie Ware Jenkins presented each classmate with a copy of her book “Untold Stories of the West Virginia Flood of 1985.”

The class decided to present a $100 donation to the EHS Alumni Association in memory of deceased classmates.

Concluding the weekend events was a brunch July 23 at the Steer Steakhouse. Classmates then headed home with good memories and thoughts of their next reunion.

The class of 1957 would like to thank the generous individuals and businesses in the community who donated door prizes and favors to make the reunion extra special.
