BELINGTON — On April 27, 1940, Don Lipscomb and Pearl White were married, uniting the White and Lipscomb families. Pearl White Lipscomb is the last remaining of those original families, at age 97.

She grew up in Elkins, and graduated in 1940. Pearl and Don had four children. David, deceased; Jack (and wife Karen), Florida; Randy (and wife Nancy), Ohio; and Jeff, deceased. After several years of marriage, they moved to Ohio, but returned to Barbour County in 1981. Pearl volunteered at the Heart & Hand for many years.

On Sunday, June 24, their children, grandchildren and various distant relatives came together for a family reunion at the Asbury Methodist Church in Belington. This is something that Pearl has been looking forward to for over a year. The last reunion was held in 2000, so it has been several years since she had seen some of her family members.

Recent health scares and family emergencies made them wonder if this reunion would happen but everything fell into place, and she was able to spend a wonderful weekend with folks from all over the United States, including Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, Texas, Ohio and Florida. One granddaughter was even able to come in all the way from Hollywood, California.

In total, there were 52 people in attendance, including two ladies that Pearl had never even met. They had hoped for 30 to come, so this number greatly and joyfully exceeded their expectations.

They all met for church services that morning, where an 8-year-old grandson, as well as his dad, was baptized. This was something that Pearl wasn’t aware of, so it was a great surprise to her. Pearl’s daughter-in-law Nancy said the baptism was a very moving and spiritual evening for everyone in attendance.

Following the service, the ladies of the church prepared a delicious meal for the family, and there were several old pictures of Belington they were able to enjoy seeing.

Pearl is incredibly thankful for the family that God has blessed her with, and the opportunity to enjoy this time with them.

The next Lipscomb reunion is planned for 2020, and is to be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
