Library has a new reading nook for kids

ELKINS — A rocket ship reading nook has been added to the children’s reading area at the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library. The space consists of a rocket-style tent, plush chair pillow and a flashlight for reading.

The space has been created to provide an incentive for young readers to visit and become immersed in a book while at the library.

“Kids love to have space to be by themselves to pretend. An area that is size and age appropriate has been added to encourage kids to fall into their own world and hopefully experience many other worlds through reading,” said Stephanie Murphy, interim library director.

“We are challenged to find private spaces in our current building,” continued Murphy, “so we are finding innovative ways to give our community what they need from their library.”

The rocket tent is located on the second floor of the library and is ready for reading.

“We are adding new programs quickly for all ages. Our Facebook page, @ERLibrary, provides event details as they become available,” Murphy said. “For now, we are hoping that this fun space will be an imaginative enticement to all children who come to their library.”
