ELKINS — Images capturing special resident moments at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center were awarded Honorable Mention from the West Virginia Health Care Association in a recent photo contest.
The facility submitted two photographs to the WVHCA contest to show their efforts to get residents involved in the arts, various celebrations and other planned events. The images submitted captured residents enjoying activities and special moments around the facility.
“We’re really pleased that our staff’s pictures received this honor,” said Tara Shaver, administrator at ERCC. “Our staff really cares for the residents here, and we do everything we can to keep them engaged with fun activities. These pictures really depict that level of care.”
There were many inspirational aspects that make up the images. Namely, the exceptional moments that were captured portraying residents’ experiences and also the programs that add to those experiences on a weekly basis.
Staff members love working with the residents and making them feel at home, Shaver noted. She went on to say that the residents respond really well to the photographer and regularly pose for pictures during activities.
“Their faces just light up when we get the camera out,” Shaver added. “Our Activities Team has really put together an excellent program and it is just wonderful to see everyone happy and having fun.”
A picture is worth a thousand words, but no words can describe the positive affect the “Merrily We Go Around” program, designed and developed by the Old Brick Playhouse especially for ERCC residents, has had throughout the facility. The ERCC pictures chosen as Honorable Mention capture the spirit of complete compassionate care that the facility strives to deliver on a daily basis.
The photos will be featured at the Health Care Association’s national convention.
