Mon Health System appoints new CEO

The Mon Health System Board of Directors has announced the appointment of David S. Goldberg as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mon Health System, effective Oct. 1.

Goldberg brings to Mon Health over 17 years of senior healthcare leadership experience. He currently serves as a Senior Vice President with Highmark Health’s Alleghany Health Network (AHN) in Pittsburgh, Pa. While at AHN Goldberg, was responsible for administrative services and had oversight for corporate services including post-acute services, external relations, provider system operations and implementation of the network’s neighborhood hospital development with partner Emerus. During his time at AHN, he also oversaw eight acute care hospitals, multiple ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers, several full-service ambulatory pavilions and network joint ventures throughout the AHN’s Pennsylvania service area, stemming from Erie to Greater Pittsburgh.

Goldberg’s extensive healthcare administrative background includes serving as President of two hospitals and Service Line Executive for cardiovascular and behavioral health services at Tenet Health’s Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas. He has also served as a Vice President and Administrator with Inova Health System in Falls Church, Va.

“After several months of conducting a national search of highly qualified candidates for the position, it was clear that David’s background fit well with Mon Health System’s core values and our commitment to enhancing the health of the communities we serve,” said Ron Stovash, Chairman of the Mon Health System Board of Directors.

“I am proud to be coming back to Morgantown as Mon Health’s President and CEO and thank the Board of Directors and search committee for this outstanding opportunity to serve,” said David Goldberg. “Mon Health’s reputation for clinical excellence, outstanding patient care, and community-focused healthcare is second to none. I look forward to continuing the great work underway and partnering with the Board of Directors, clinicians and Mon Health colleagues in advancing our mission of best in class community-focused health care.”

As President and CEO of Mon Health System, Goldberg will be responsible for providing leadership strategy; operating results; and future growth to ensure the highest quality, patient-centered care for Mon Health as a high performing organization.

Goldberg earned his master’s degree in health systems management from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from West Virginia University. A recipient of several professional awards, he has remained active in healthcare, professionally and in community activities throughout his career.

Goldberg currently resides in Gibsonia, Pa., with his wife Noel, and daughters Reagan and Ryan.

The CEO Search Committee included a multidisciplinary team of 11 members, who narrowed down a large pool of candidates to three finalists.

“I’d like to commend the Search Committee and its Chairman, Pat Esposito, for their outstanding work of selecting an outstanding candidate for the position,” Stovash said.

Goldberg succeeds Interim President and CEO Tom Senker, who has served in this capacity since April.
