BUCKHANNON — Members of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at West Virginia Wesleyan College recently assisted Kathy Gregg, professor emerita of biology and curator of the Buckhannon’s Nature Park and Learning Trail, in carrying out a Japanese stiltgrass pull.

Organized by the fraternity’s service coordinator Nathan White, the pull helped in the effort to control the invasive species in the park, which is a cooperative venture between Wesleyan and the city of Buckhannon.

“The vision for the Nature Park and Learning Trail is that it be a place where school children of all ages, college students, and families in the community can learn about our native plant heritage and how to protect it from invading, exotic species,” Gregg said. “It is also a place where, whether on foot or on wheels, one can appreciate and contemplate natural beauty and diversity in a quiet setting along the Buckhannon River.”
