Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats host April luncheon
ELKINS — Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats hosted their monthly luncheon April 8 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Parsons. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting.
Officials send a big “thank you” to “Parsons Chicks” Duchesses Bonnie Swyter, Connie Collins, Glenda Lipscomb, Jane Parsons and Sharon Daniels for planning the event. Festive Easter and spring decor filled the room and each lady received a colorful plastic Easter egg filled with candy.
After a short business meeting, Queen BJ asked the blessing and members enjoyed a delicious lunch that was catered by Nancy Dotson of Mt. State Expo Services. April birthdays were announced and members serenaded birthday Majesties Bonnie Swyter and Sherri White on their kazoos. The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie.
Do you know how many words can be made from just the two words – “Happy Easter”? Quite a few… and one lady found 37 words in a timed quiz and took home a little plant as a reward. Runners up also received a little plant. The Parsons Chicks also had an additional raffle drawing and another lady received a Pampered Chef casserole dish with carrying rack. Prize tickets were announced and several more lucky winners were able to choose their own prize from a table filled with lovely door prizes.
The May Purple Majesties luncheon will be held May 13 at Don Patron Mexican Restaurant on the Beverly Pike. The ladies may choose beef or chicken taco or beef or chicken enchiladas with rice, beans, beverages and dessert. Thanks to May duchesses Carole Helmick, Debbie Pernia, Sonja Corbin and Debbie Cook for planning this upcoming event.
