Elkins City Hall News

Council took action at this past Thursday’s meeting to approve an agreement with the American Legal Publishing Corporation. This company will now begin the very technical and time consuming work of codifying city ordinances. What does this mean? Simply that a highly skilled team of editorial and legal experts will review the entirety of the Elkins City Code to ensure consistency within and compatibility with all State and Federal laws. Simultaneously, they will incorporate all city ordinances into the City Code and ultimately host the code online. This will provide easy and up to date access for both city officials and the public at large.

In other happy news, this past week the city demolished a dilapidated structure in Second Ward and witnessed the demolition of another structure in Fourth Ward by a private property owner at no cost to the City. Several more demolitions are being pursued through legal means, and we are hopeful to announce more of these public improvements soon.

On the schedule for next week is a Communication Committee meeting, May 22 at 10 a.m. Members will review an updated draft of the emergency communications plan. Also next week, the Municipal Properties Committee will meet Thursday at 9 a.m., during which the proposed change to the name of Robert E. Lee Avenue will be discussed, among other items.
