Elkins City Hall News

As in life, not all things went according to plan this week at City Hall.

The Special Economic Growth and Development Committee meeting was canceled; however, the next regular meeting is just two weeks out.

On that same Thursday, the second regular monthly meeting of the Common Council had to be canceled as well, in this case for lack of a quorum. While a few members had scheduled vacations, a few others had emergencies arise that prevented them from being able to attend.

A special call council meeting has been scheduled for this coming Thursday at 7 p.m. to take up all the business left undone this week, and some new.

Also next Thursday, the Rules and Ordinances Committee will hold their regular meeting at noon. On the agenda is the review of a draft ordinance regarding food trucks. Several vendors and other community members have already weighed in on the city’s efforts to regulate and encourage this exciting new industry.

In other city news, the search for a new chief of police has begun, as well as entry-level civil service testing to fill a newly created patrolman position. More information on both can be found on the city website, under employment opportunities.
