Elkins City Hall News

City Hall will be abuzz with council activity next week. Starting things off Monday morning at 10 a.m. is the Public Safety Committee whose members will be talking with the Director of Woodlands Development Group regarding their Memorandum of Understanding focused on dilapidated housing. This MOU was successfully exercised a few months ago with the demolition of a house on Henry Avenue and both parties are hopeful that with the assistance of the West Virginia Housing Fund low interest loan program, this joint work can continue.

Included in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan for the City is the creation of a public relations position, however, after further review, council decided to try contracting these services, as opposed to creating a new position within the organization. At 1 p.m. on Monday the Personnel Committee will review proposals recently solicited for these information services.

The Finance Committee, meeting Tuesday at 10 a.m., will consider a variety of items, also including the remediation of a property located on Howe Street. Thursday looks to be the busiest day of all, with a Rules and Ordinances Committee meeting set for noon; an Economic Growth and Development Committee meeting at 5:30 p.m.; and the regular meeting of the Common Council at 7 p.m.

As always, these meetings are open for the public to attend and a period of public comment is offered at each.
