Elkins City Hall News
Council and administrative staff are gearing up for another busy week, but before we delve into that let’s talk about what one of our city boards has been up to.
The Elkins Tree Board announced a new program last week to help maintain and grow our reputation as a Tree City by offering two trees for adoption in each ward. With the assistance of Tree Board members, property owners will plant and maintain an appropriate tree in front of their home. For more information, check out the blog on the city’s website or the Friends of Trees Facebook page.
Next week’s business includes three days of interviews for the chief of police position, conducted by the specially appointed Police Chief Hiring Committee, followed by a meeting on Friday for members to discuss the candidates. Should the committee come to a consensus on a candidate, they will be recommended to council for approval.
Also next week, the Recycling Committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. to talk about tire recycling and Municipal Properties meets Thursday at 9 a.m. for an update from Elkins Main Street, including the downtown sound system. All committee agendas are posted inside the lobby of City Hall as well as in the city’s outdoor kiosk.
