ELKINS — The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats met Oct. 14 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Parsons. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting.

The event was hosted by Phyllis Carr and “The Parsons Chicks.” Officials said the fall/Halloween decorations were great and some of us are wearing “spider” rings.

After the blessing by Twila Smith, members enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon of roast beef, chicken, Parisian carrots and scalloped potatoes provided Big John’s Family Fixin’s.

The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie. Prize tickets were drawn and members received some beautiful door prizes.

Another special raffle drawing was started and Darlene Murphy made a beautiful lap quilt that will be raffled off during the December gathering. Ticket sales have begun and will also be sold in November as well as December prior to the drawing. Bring some extra cash to “cash in” on an opportunity to own this beautiful quilt.

The next Purple Majesties luncheon will be held Nov. 11 at the Elks Club in Elkins. Soup, sandwiches and carrot cake will be provided by Brenda Teets. Come early for appetizers and apple cider while we share some social time prior to lunch. Thanks to Charlotte Thomas for planning this event.

If you would like to join this fun loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the November luncheon, call Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie at 304-614-3079.
