PHILIPPI — Scores of people strolled downtown Philippi last year for the inaugural Christmas Stroll. Organizers of this year’s Thursday, Dec. 19, Christmas Stroll are gearing for even more visitors to this special musical event of Philippi’s A Covered Bridge Christmas celebration.

Five locations throughout downtown Philippi will host musicians and singers sharing Christmas music and other musical gems on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Strollers are invited to stroll through Philippi and visit all of the venues or stop and enjoy the music at just a few.

Beginning at the north end of Main Street, Tony Ebert and Mike Gray of Fairmont will be entertaining at Margarita’s Mexican Grill and Cantina. Lil Moe’s will host Rachel Franks and Seth Maynard. This returning duo is known for its jazzy overtones and hails from the Elkins and Buckhannon areas.

Wanderlust is the spot for Key to Adam, the duo made up of Adam Moyer on the guitar and Kiara Williams who plays the violin/fiddle. This twosome has established a following in the Philippi area. Local musician and singer Jeff Frey will entertain strollers at Mollie’s Hand Dipped Ice Cream.

Bookending the Christmas Stoll on the south side of Main Street will be The Market Place. This year-round farmers’ market will host the Philip Barbour High School Brass Band. Additionally, The Market Place will be the location of this year’s Christmas cookie sale. The Barbour County CEOS invite all area bakers to donate a plate of their favorite Christmas cookies and carry these to this venue along with the recipes. Cookies will sell for 25 cents each with the proceeds going to persons and families in the area who need a helping hand.

As an added attraction for the evening, rides with Santa Claus can be enjoyed.

A Covered Bridge Christmas began in Philippi in 2017 as a way for the community to gather and celebrate the Christmas season. Since its inception, it has grown annually with its centerpiece being the Courthouse Square decorated tree village. Other events of the celebration are the Dec. 6 Main Street Christmas Parade, the Dec. 7 Christmas Community Concert, Christmas Caroling on Dec. 10 and 17, the Mad Cap Puppet Show on Dec. 11, residential decorating and downtown decorated-business windows contests.
