Elkins City Hall News

As we adjust for the changes in our calendar, the weather and the time, city business continues, and next week at a fairly high volume.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Monday with the Finance Committee considering funding requests from two local non-profit organizations, as well as restoration of the City Hall facade and a few municipal court matters. The very next day at 9 a.m. the Personnel Committee will call to order for discussion of positions within the City Clerk’s department.

On Tuesday afternoon, at 2 p.m., the Policeman’s Civil Service Commission will convene to certify the list of candidates eligible for promotion to the rank of corporal. This vacancy was created by the appointment of Travis Bennett as the Chief of Police.

Thursday will be the busiest of the week with three meetings back to back. Starting at 5 p.m. with continued discussions of annexation and economic growth by the Economic Growth and Development Committee. To be followed by the Elkins Building Commission meeting at 6 p.m., wherein members will hear the final reading of the ordinance authorizing transfer of ownership of the Phil Gainer Community Center from the City to the EBC, for the purpose of issuing bonds to finance needed renovations.

Finally at 7 p.m., City Council will assemble to first hold two public hearings, one for the Phase II sewer project and the other regarding the PGCC project, followed by a presentation from the Elkins Historic Landmarks Commission and finally consideration of all other business.

Any questions on how best to engage in these discussions may be directed to the Elkins city clerk, Jessica Sutton.
