Elkins City Hall News

This Monday the City of Elkins will celebrate Veterans Day, along with the rest of the nation, by giving thanks to all those who have served our country in war or peace. In observance of the holiday, City Hall will be closed; however, garbage service will run on the regular schedule. City Hall offices will reopen Tuesday at 8 a.m.

The rest of the week will bring two meetings. First up is the Elkins Planning Commission at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Members will be reviewing portions of the final draft of a new zoning ordinance. This work has been ongoing for several years with the assistance of the WVU Land Use and Sustainable Development Clinic. Currently, the Planning Commission has a vacancy. If you are a city resident interested in learning more or being considered for appointment, please contact the city clerk.

Later that same day, the Rules and Ordinances Committee will convene for continued discussion on the feasibility of a City Manager form of government as well as other potential changes to the City Charter. This project is part of the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan and will include opportunities for public input, outside the regular committee and council meetings.
