ELKINS — The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats met Nov. 11 at the Elks Club in Elkins. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting.

The event was hosted by Charlotte Thomas, Gerri Rosencrance and Susan Channell. Thank you, ladies, for a wonderful job. The affair began with delicious appetizers and hot cider as members enjoyed a social time prior to lunch. After a short business meeting, members observed a few moments of silence in honor of Veterans Day. Queen BJ asked the blessing and members enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon of hot ham and cheese sandwiches, cream of broccoli soup, tomato bisque soup and delicious carrot cake for dessert — prepared by Brenda Teets.

The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie. Members found it interesting how many words can be made from the letters “Happy Thanksgiving.” Prizes were awarded to the winner of that game and two others. Prize tickets were drawn and members received some beautiful door prizes. The grand prize was “Dinner in a Bag” and a lucky winner took home fettuccine, alfredo sauce, salad and bread to prepare for dinner that evening.

Tickets are still being sold for the lap quilt that will be raffled off during the December gathering. Members may bring some extra cash to “cash in” on an opportunity to own this beautiful quilt.

The next Purple Majesties gathering is the annual Christmas Dinner Dec. 8, at the Elks Club in Elkins. This is the traditional Turkey Dinner prepared by Brenda Teets. Members will meet at 4 p.m. for social hour with dinner to follow. Present and former queens will plan and host this annual event. Members are reminded to bring their Toys for Tots to help brighten Christmas for some less fortunate children.

If you would like to join this fun-loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the December dinner, call Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie at 304-614-3079.
