Tiger Express Program helps families in need

ELKINS — The Elkins High School Tiger Express Program exists to assist families nominated by locals that may need a little extra assistance for the holiday season. This year 29 families and 57 individuals were nominated for the program.

“This year the program took on more families than in recent memory,” said Jessica Hedrick, chair of the Elkins Tiger Express Program said. Without the kind donations of the Elkins community, this generosity would not be possible.

Upon nomination the Tiger Express Program, run exclusively by Elkins High School staff, sets to work acquiring the sizes, likes and dislikes of each individual they plan to help. Families assisted by this program receive all they need for a traditional holiday — from a head-to-toe new outfit for the individuals to a holiday feast.

“Every year I wonder how we will ever be able to meet the goals set before us, but somehow, the community always comes together to perform what feels like a Christmas miracle,” said Jess Hedrick.

The Tiger Express program would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who helped make this extreme act of giving possible, including 1201 Crossfit, The Anderson Family, Atlantic Coast Pipline Rockford, AHC, Citizens Bank, The Chua Family, The Cowgill Family, Diana Vannoy, and the New Hope Sunday School, Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center, Elkins High School Fellowship of student Athletes, Elkins High School FFA, Elkins High School National Honor’s Society, Elkins High School Student Council, The Hinrichs Family, Ms. Hoa Chin, Mr. Joe Hughes, Ms. Kerr, The Knights of Columbus of Elkins, The Kiwanis Club of Elkins, Leer Mining Complex – an Arch Coal Company, Mike Ross, Inc., Mountain Valley Bank, The Morgan Family, Newlons International Sales, LLC., Mr. and Mrs. Nutter, The Otterbein Methodist Church of Elkins, Mr. Philip Meeks, II, Pioneer Insurance of Elkins, Reckart Logistics, Inc., Studio MK of Elkins, Tomblyn Funeral Home, and Weyerhaeuser of Buckhannon.
