Professor’s poetry to be published

BUCKHANNON — A retired West Virginia Wesleyan professor has had his poems accepted for publication in a regional anthology.

Dr. Mark DeFoe, Professor Emeritus of English, will have four poems in the upcoming issue of The Anthology of Appalachian Writers. The publication, produced by Shepherd College, is an annual collection of fiction, non-fiction and poetry focused on life in the Appalachian area. DeFoe is a frequent contributor to the anthology, which has been in publication for more than 10 years.

Since his retirement from Wesleyan in 2008, DeFoe’s work has appeared in anthologies and journals, including Eyes Glowing at the Edge of the Woods, Voices from the Porch, Forgotten Women, Pine Mt. Sand and Gravel, South Carolina Review, Notre Dame Review, Potomac Review, Tulane Review, Chautauqua Literary Review, Santa Fe Review, ABZ and English Journal. During these years he has also published three chapbooks: Ten Scenes with Mockingbird, Weekend Update and In the Tourist Cave.

DeFoe joined the English department at Wesleyan in 1975. Recently he has taught part-time in the college’s MFA Writing Program.
