Elkins Bookhounds seek participants and sponsors of virtual Run for It team
ELKINS — The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library are seeking team members and sponsors for their Elkins Bookhounds team participating in the Tucker Community Foundation’s Run for It event.
This annual event raises funds and awareness for many community organizations, nonprofit agencies, and charities. This year the fundraiser is virtual due to the pandemic.
During the month of September, participants pick a route wherever they want and run or walk on their own schedule, at their own pace. The goal is to stay safe, have fun, and raise funds for charity.
After the participant finishes the 2K/5K walk or run, they note their time, take a photo or screenshot if possible, enter their time and upload the photo on the event website under “submit virtual results.” Participants need to enter their results by midnight, Sept. 30 in order to qualify for cash awards for their team.
“A large team with many sponsors is the key to success,” said team captain Laura Hill. “Cash awards can double the value of sponsorships, based on team size, participation, and money raised.”
This year the Elkins Bookhounds team is raising funds for renovation and expansion of the library, as well as for programs, services, books, technology, and other items not covered by the library’s annual budget. According to library director Stephanie Murphy, space limitations have been a huge impediment to reopening the library safely during the pandemic.
“Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and our limited space, we would only be allowed to let 2-3 patrons in our building at a time after staff.” Therefore, the library is offering curbside material pickup starting today, arranged by calling the library at 304-637-0287.
There is still time to join and/or sponsor the Elkins Bookhounds team in support of the library. You can register to walk or run, and donate on-line by selecting the Elkins Bookhounds team on the event website (https://raceroster,com/31389).
Or visit https://www.tuckerfoundation.net/run/ to download an entry/sponsorship form and mail it with a check made out to TCF-RFI, PO Box 491, Parsons, WV 26287. Be sure to identify the Elkins Bookhounds as the team you are supporting on the form, and also write the team name on the memo line of the check.
Participants have until Sept. 30 to register and complete the race; however, sponsor donations must be received on-line or postmarked by Sept. 13 to count toward cash awards.
