Deadline set for Scarecrow Days
ELKINS — Sandy Tice recently acquired two kits for her coworkers and family to design scarecrows for Scarecrow Days that will begin Oct. 10 and extend through Oct. 23. Tice and all other community participants are reminded that scarecrows need to be delivered to Elkins Builders Supply on Oct. 5, 6, 7 or 8 during business hours.
If anyone was unable to acquire a kit, they are still welcome to design their own. All entries will be accepted. Downtown business owners will hold on to their scarecrows and place outside their business before 10 a.m. on Oct. 10. Volunteers will move and place all others throughout downtown Elkins on the same day. If contributors wish to keep their scarecrows, they must be removed by 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 in order to clean the city streets.
For two weeks, spectators can walk or drive through town; take pictures; enjoy the creative display; and vote for their favorite scarecrow at Byrd’s House of Donuts, Henry G’s Cafe or S&T Bees. Recognition of three People’s Choice awards will be based on voting results that are tabulated during the first week of display.
The volunteer committee appreciates recent donations of corn stalks from Daniels Farm, Chris and Diana Patella and grandchildren, Wendy and Dwaine Morgan. Additional cornstalks would be appreciated. For more information or instructions regarding donations, call 304-636-0415 or 304-621-8148.
