Schroeder joins Davis & Elkins College nursing faculty

ELKINS — Dr. Cheryl Schroeder has been appointed assistant professor of nursing at Davis & Elkins College. Schroeder joined the faculty at the start of the spring 2021 semester, instructing courses in success strategies, medical surgical nursing and disruptions in mental health.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Schroeder has worked as an educator, nurse manager and as a nurse in various clinical and nonclinical settings.

Most recently she provided clinical instruction at the College of Nursing and Advanced Health Professions at The Chicago School in Dallas, Texas, and served on the faculty at the Dallas Nursing Institute. At both institutions, she instructed LPN, LPN-RN transition and ADN nursing groups. Schroeder also provides clinical informatic consulting to organizations related to optimization of electronic health records medication safety and workflow analysis.

She also has worked as director of the Health Informatics Division at CHRISTUS Health in Irving, Texas, manager and director of clinical systems at Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tennessee, director of the Intensive Care Step-down Medical Care Unit at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and medical surgical director at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg, North Carolina. Schroeder is a native of the region and has also worked at Davis Memorial Hospital in the emergency room and in women’s health.

Schroeder is currently working toward certification in ancient herbal therapies and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She graduated from the Registered Nursing Program and the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama and completed Distance Learning via the U.S. Navy partnership with Drexel University.
