‘Team Love’ fundraiser for Davis set tonight

ELKINS –Vanessa Davis, 41, has been a friendly face and icon of Downtown Elkins as the manager of Henry G’s Cafe for years, until it closed its doors during the pandemic. So when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer this summer, the community rallied around her.

Team Love for Vanessa, a volunteer grassroots effort by 18 of Vanessa’s friends, stepped up to support her.

“I have known Vanessa for 25 years and she has been such a light in my life,” said Chrissy Hall, a Team Love for Vanessa volunteer. “She is a sweet, beautiful, caring person and has touched so many individuals in this community.”

Team Love for Vanessa is organizing a benefit at El Gran Sabor tonight starting at 8 p/m. Tickets are available at the door and also available in advance at TipTop Elkins.

The benefit will feature live music from Cross Town Traffic and Bo McMillion. T-shirts that say “Team Love” will be sold, and 50/50 drawings are planned.

The benefit will also launch an online auction fundraiser. Auction items include WVU tickets, vacation lodging, local art, and donations from local businesses. Bids can be made through Sept. 30 at https://www.32auctions.com/teamlove .

“These efforts are simply to return some of the love Vanessa sends out to the world. Her love for stray animals and her friends is immense and selfless. You don’t meet Vanessa without feeling her goodness,” said volunteer Carrie Shupp.

The Elkins community has been enthusiastically responsive in sharing the love.

“Nessa is literally an angel,” posted Donna Smith.
