EDITOR’S NOTE: The Datebook is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Because of numerous entries, items may appear for only one week. Entries appear in chronological order and as there is space. The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: The Whitmer United Methodist Church will host a Vacation Bible School through Friday from 6-8 p.m. There will be stories, songs, crafts and fun. For more information call 304-227-4260.

HOMESTEAD COMMUNITY CENTER MEETING: is scheduled for 6 p.m. today in the dining hall at the Homestead Community and Event Center in Dailey. All are welcome and community residents are invited to attend and get involved with the community center activities. For more information, call president Tom Rennix at 304-940-1855.

PICKIN’ IN THE PARK: Pickin’ in the Park will be held Wednesdays at the Elkins City Park. There will be two jam sessions beginning with a country music session at 4 p.m. at the small pavilion. The second session will be an old-time jam and will be at 7 p.m. at the Sycamore Street Pavillion. Pickin’ in the Park is sponsored by the Augusta Heritage Center and Elkins Parks and Recreation. FREE MOVIE: Crystal Spring Community Church is sponsoring a free movies and popcorn 9 p.m. Friday in the park across from the church. Those attending should bring their own chair and soda. The movie will be “I Believe” and the rain date will be June 24.

WEST VIRGINIA BIRTHDAY SCAVENGER HUNT: Our Town Inc., along with various downtown merchants, will host a West Virginia Birthday Scavenger Hunt on Saturday for children ages 5 to middle school age. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pick up bags and clues in front of the former Henry G’s Cafe between 10-11 a.m. Limited to 50 participants. At each location there will be a prize representing something about West Virginia. Return to Henry G’s for a final birthday surprise. Contact 304-636-0415 for any questions.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Gospel Light Tabernacle will host a Vacation Bible School June 16-18 from 6:30 -8 p.m.

CHURCH EVENT: The Rowan United Methodist Church in Mabie will be hosting a Vacation Bible School 6-7 p.m, June 20-24. This is open to anyone. Come as you are and enjoy an evening of fun and laughter, while learning about Jesus.

YARD SALE: The Rowan United Methodist Church Youth will be hosting a community yard sale June 25. If interested in purchasing a table for the event, contact Crystal Bodkin by calling for texting 304-642-3035.

EHS CLASS OF 1971: The Elkins High School Class of 1971 will have a class reunion July 22-23. On Friday, a picnic will be at Stuart Park from 9 a.m. until 9 pm. Lunch will be at noon and catered by Smoke on the Water. On Saturday, dinner will be at the 1863 Appalachian Bistro with a 6 p.m. social hour followed by a 7 p.m. dinner buffet. EXHIBIT OPENING: The Arts Center will host the“Molded in the Mountains: The Glass Industry in West Virginia” exhibit opening reception 5-7 p.m. Friday. The opening is free and open to the public.

HOMESTEAD SUMMER KICKOFF CAR SHOW: is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18 at the Homestead Community and Event Center parking lot in Dailey. There will be a registration fee and the car show opens at 9 a.m. for all years of cars. A chili dog lunch will be available for purchase starting at 11 a.m., curbside pick-up or drive-thru. Menu includes chili dog, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert, and drink. There will be a charge for field parking per vehicle with proceeds supporting the community center. RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: will meet 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at the medical office of Dr. Farukh Khan, located at the corner of Harrison and Pleasant Avenues. JAKES DAY: The Tygart Valley Chapter of NWTF will be hosting Jakes Day Saturday, June 25, at the Izaak Walton Clubhouse located around 6 miles straight up Files Creek Road in Beverly. The free event is for kids ages 5-17 and kids under 5 will need to be supervised by parents. Scheduled learning stations include fishing, archery, skeet shooting and more. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the event starts at 9 a.m. Kids must be registered and present by 9 a.m. to be eligible for prizes. Lunch will be provided. Please wear clothing appropriate for the days weather.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW OPEN HOUSE: The Kump Education Center is hosting a special summertime Open House Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, from 2-5 p.m. at the historic Gov. Kump House on Randolph Ave., Elkins. The event will feature vintage Kump family wedding dresses and memorabilia, new interpretive displays, a visit by re-enactor Eleanor Roosevelt at 3 p.m., and tours. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are encouraged. Parking is available in the rear of the house as well as Kroger’s. For more information call 304-637-7820.

EHS CLASS OF 1982: The Elkins High School Class of 1982 has scheduled a 40th class reunion the weekend of June 24-26. Friday June 24, a pay as you go gathering will be held at Jimbo’s in downtown Elkins beginning at 6 p.m. An RSVP picnic will be held on Saturday, June 25,from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and will include a BBQ style meal. Cost is $20 per person and advance reservations are required by Friday, June 10. FLEA MARKET: The Harman Presbyterian Church will host a flea market, bake sale and chicken burn on June 25. The flea market and bake sale will open at 9 a.m. The chicken dinner consisting of 1/2 chicken, roll and drink will be available after 11 a.m., along with a dunking booth. VENDOR SPOTS: Vendor areas will be available for the Live and Drive 2022 Summer Concert Series sponsored by Our Town, Inc and Mountain Sate Street Machines on Thursday nights from 6-8 p.m. Reserved spots will be available to crafters, business owners and restaurants. HOT DOG SALE AND CAKE WALK: The Coalton Volunteer Fire Department will host a hot dog sale and cake walk Friday, July 1. Food will be served at 6 p.m. and the cake walk will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing and raffle. The proceeds will benefit the George D. Broschart Memorial Scholarship.

YARD SALE: Elkins Family Worship Center will be having their church yard sale on Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at 14 Brookside Dr. in Glenmore. The church is currently accepting yard sale donations. For more information please contact Pastor Jamie at 304-636-6200.
