EDITOR’S NOTE: The Datebook is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Because of numerous entries, items may appear for only one week. Entries appear in chronological order and as there is space. The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m.

VALLEY LIVESTOCK 4-H CLUB: Valley Livestock 4H club will meet Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek. This is the first meeting of the year and the group will be accepting new members at this meeting. They will hold officer elections so if you wish to be considered for an officer position you need to attend the meeting. Everyone needs to remember to bring two bags of candy for the trunk or treat event at George Ward Elementary School. Please remember to fill our your new year membership application in Zsuite. OPEN HOUSE: The Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee and Randolph County Democratic Women are hosting an Open House at the Democratic Headquarters on Third Street, Saturday (before the Forest Festival Grand Feature Parade) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Meet the Democratic candidates to discuss your concerns and pick up campaign swag. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy good food and fellowship. For more information call 304-641-0751.

BUCKWHEAT FEED: The Mountaineer Chapter of the IWLA will host a buckwheat feed Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the clubhouse on Files Creek Road. The menu will consist of three buckwheat or regular cakes, two sausage patties, milk and coffee. Sausage gravy will also be available.

DEMOCRAT MEMBERS MEETING: The regular combined monthly meeting of the Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee and the Randolph County Democratic Women will be held on Tuesday, Oct.11, at 6 p.m. at the Democratic Headquarters at 117 Third Street. This will be the final meeting before the election and everyone is encouraged to attend and sign up for volunteer opportunities. For more information call 304-641-0751.

HOMESTEAD COMMUNITY CENTER: will meet Tuesday, Oct.11, at 6 p.m. in the dining hall at the Homestead Community and Event Center in Dailey. All are invited and community residents are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Tom Rennix, president, at 304-940-1855.

ALLEGHENY REGIONAL FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY: will host its regular meeting Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the library at the IOOF Building located on the Beverly Five-lane. Those interested in genealogy are encouraged to attend and become a member. Any questions, call 304-636-1650 or 304-636-8528.

REVIVAL: Crystal Springs Community Church will be having revival Oct. 13, 14 and 15 at 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. with dinner served after morning service. The speaker will be Bobby Lambert.

BEVERLY LANTERN TOURS: Join the Beverly Heritage Center for spooky and mysterious true tales. Take a guided tour of historic downtown Beverly by lantern light and learn about a pioneer murder, a Civil War amputation, and other gruesome tales from history and local legend on Oct. 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7 p.m. Free for children 12 and under. SHOOTING MATCH: VFW Post 5781 will host a shooting match (12-gauge shotgun) Oct. 15 October from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the post home in Harman. Refreshments will be served. For information contact Danie Ours at 304-227-4349.

BLOOD SCREENING: The Elkins Kiwanis is sponsoring their Health Awareness Blood Screening. It will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Randolph County Senior Center from 7-10 a.m. The basic multiphasic test is available which includes a lipid panel, CBC, CMP and several other tests. Other specialty tests are also available for an addition cost. Cash, check, HSA, or credit/debit cards are accepted. Most insurances are accepted with a doctor’s script. SPAGHETTI DINNER: The St. Patrick Parish Hall in Coalton will host a spaghetti dinner Sunday, Oct. 16, from noon to 5 p.m.

FREE PRUNING WORKSHOP: On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. the Elkins Tree Board is sponsoring a hands-on workshop at the Gov. Kump House, Elkins in which participants will learn how to prune trees from West Virginia Division of Forestry urban forester Sam Adams. The event will be followed by “Adoption Day” for Adopt-A-Tree participants to pick-out their tree at the Tree Nursery. Parking is available at the rear of the building. Bring equipment/gloves if you have them.

ADOPT-A-TREE PROGRAM: The Elkins Tree Board is sponsoring its annual Adopt-a-Tree program that encourages residents to plant trees in their neighborhoods. Free trees are available by simply filling out an application available at Elkins City Hall or online cityofelkinswv.com, Elkins Friends of Trees Facebook page or emailing nbross-fregonara@cityofelkinswv.com. This year, participants can pick out their own tree from the Elkins Tree Nursery located behind the Kump House on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 12-2 p.m. Other accommodations can be made if unable to attend “Adoption Day.”

BUCKWHEAT/PANCAKE BREAKFAST: scheduled for Oct. 22 from 7 a.m. to noon at the Homestead Community and Event Center in Dailey. The menu includes all you can eat sour dough buckwheat/regular pancakes, pork sausage, eggs, coffee, milk, orange juice, syrup (regular/sugar free). Dine in or carry out. Hosted by Home of the Soul Family Worship in partnership with Tygart Valley Homestead Association.

USED BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library are hosting a used book sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. The location is the old library on Davis Avenue. Any donations collected will be used to pay for the construction of the new library.

FOREST FESTIVAL MEMORIES PUBLIC TOURS: The historic Gov. Kump House, Elkins will be open for free public tours on Sunday afternoons 3-5 p.m. through Oct. 23. The fall exhibits will include 1930s costumes from past Forest Festivals as well as newly created interpretive displays. Admission is free but donations welcome. The Kump House is located at 401 Randolph Ave., across from Kroger’s. Parking is available in the rear of the building which can be accessed off Seneca Road.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS: Meets every Monday at 6 p.m. at Full Gospel Fellowship in the Glenmore Loop. For more information call 304-642-1244.
