GARDENING AS YOU AGE: A presentation on “AgrAbility”: using special tools and techniques designed to help gardeners with arthritis, decreased energy and disabilities to continue to enjoy gardening, will be held at the Randolph County Extension office (in Family Court/Health Dept building) today at 5:30 p.m. Inetta Fluharty will present the program in association with the Randolph/Tucker Master Gardener Association. The public is invited to attend. Enter the building via the ramp on the Gay Street side of the building.
USED BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library are hosting a used book sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday. The location is the old library on Davis Avenue. Any donations collected will be used to pay for the construction of the new library.
FEED THE CITY: There will be a free meal from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Railyard Restaurant in Elkins. The event is sponsored by Summit Church and the Railyard Restaurant.
SOCIAL GATHERING: The Indian Camp Settlers will host a social Oct. 29 at the Indian Camp Normal Building. The kitchen will open at 6:30 p.m with activities beginning at 7 p.m. There will be hot dogs, pies, cakewalks, games and music by the Bluegrass Preserves Band.
RANDOLPH COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL: will hold their October meeting Friday at the Steer Steakhouse 12:30 p.m. There will be a scholarship auction and a meet your candidates event. All retired school personnel are welcome to attend.
BUCKWHEAT FEED: The Beverly United Methodist Church is having its first Buckwheat Feed of the year 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. The feed will raise money for the Tygart valley Volley Ball team. The menu includes buckwheat cakes, regular pan cakes, sausage gravy, sausage patties, fried eggs, syrup and to drink, coffee, milk and orange juice.
TRUNK-OR-TREAT: One Hope Covenant Church of Elkins will be hosting their second annual Trunk or Treat Sunday0 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Elkins Railyard. Admission will be one can of food or winter clothing item per vehicle. Children and adults are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite costumes as they share in the fun and excitement of collecting candy, school supplies, and other goodies. CHURCH WOMEN UNITED: Elkins Church Women United will gather on Friday, Nov. 4, at noon for World Community Day Celebration at Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church on First Street. Women are asked to bring either sandwiches or salads to share for our lunch. A celebration program follows with Pastor Jeremiah Jasper speaking about the different free lunches in the area. The business meeting will be a very important since the Church Women United in West Virginia voted in September to dissolve effective Dec. 31, 2022. Everyone is welcome to come and participate.
BUCKWHEAT BREAKFAST: VFW Post 5781 will host a buckwheat breakfast Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the post home in Harman. Buckwheat and regular pancakes will be available with sausage, sausage gravy, fried potatoes, eggs and drinks.
FRUIT SALE: The Elkins Area Bands Annual Citrus Fruit/RADA Sale will run through Nov. 6. See any Elkins High or Elkins Middle School band student to order or Call 304-636-2721. Pick-up will be Dec. 2 at the EHS band room.
VETERANS DAY DINNER: The H.W. Daniels American Legion will be hosting its 103rd Veterans Day Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 12,. Happy Hour is at 6p.m. There will be ham dinner at 7 p.m.. Tickets are free for veterans and may be purchased for guests. Deadline to pick up your tickets is Saturday, Nov. 5. None will be available at the door. For more information, call 304-636-3930.
VETERANS DAY PARADE: The Annual Veterans Day parade will be held on Saturday Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. Those wishing to participate should contact Mike Cardinal at 304-614-6338.
SPAGHETTI DINNER: Boy Scout Troop 66 will host a spaghetti dinner 4- 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department. The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread and a drink and 400 meals will be available. Funds raised will assist in sending scouts to the National Jamboree in 2023.
PURPLE MAJESTIES: The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hat group will meet on Monday, Nov. 14, at The Lunch Box on Harrison Ave. in Elkins. The menu will consist of country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad bar, drink and dessert. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. SHOOTING MATCH: VFW Post 5781 will host a shooting match with 12-gauge shotguns Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the post home in Harman. Refreshments will be served. For information contact Danie Ours at 304-227-4349.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT PICKING: is moving indoors until late spring. Sponsored by the Augusta Heritage Center and D&E College, the weekly jam sessions will take place on Wednesdays at the Boiler House Theater on the college campus. The country music jams will be held in the Boiler House Lobby from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; the old-time music jams will take place 7 to 9 p.m. All acoustic instruments are welcome; singers, dancers and listeners are very welcome as well.
