PHILIPPI — Heart and Hand House, Inc. is the recipient of a generous donation from the Philipps Family Foundation. Cheri Sturm of the Foundation attended the organization’s May Board meeting to make the presentation.

Sturm introduced the Foundation to the Heart and Hand Board members explaining that the Foundation was founded in 2016 in memory of her mother.

Since its inception, the Foundation has donated $60,000 annually to local nonprofits.

Profits from three recent Ladies Night Out events held at Battlers Knob and matched by the Foundation enabled this current donation to Heart and Hand. Because Sturm’s mother loved children, Sturm requested that the donation be used, if possible, in conjunction with Heart and Hand’s backpack project which serves numerous school children throughout the year.

Board President Beth Longo stated, “Heart and Hand House is most appreciative of the Philipps Family Foundation for its generous gift to our organization. This gift will benefit approximately 500 school-aged children who take home a weekly backpack of nutritious, non-perishable food items to see them through the weekend or over a holiday break.”

Since 1965, Heart and Hand House, Inc. has existed in Barbour County. Its mission statement continues to guide the work of the ministry.

That mission statement is, “Heart and Hand House, Inc. is a non-profit mission project affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in north central West Virginia. It exists because of the clear Christian mandate to minister to the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs of in-crisis, low-income people of Barbour County.”
