ArtSpring Weekend starts Friday
DAVIS — Art lovers will flock to West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands later this month to enjoy the seventh annual ArtSpring Weekend Friday through Saturday.
Begun in 2011, ArtSpring highlights the rich and varied arts communities of Thomas, Davis, Parsons and Canaan in Tucker County. Gallery owners, artists and musicians come together each Memorial Day weekend to celebrate their mountain creativity.
“ArtSpring kicks off the spring and summer travel season with a whimsical weekend of live music, unique art, and great food,” said Jessica Waldo, Tucker County CVB executive director. “West Virginia’s natural beauty is inspirational and attracts artists and artisans from around the world to live and work here.
“Whether you love to collect, create or simply experience art, ArtSpring offers a little something for everyone. Numerous demonstrations, musical performances, exhibits and activities are slated to take place throughout the weekend.”
Activities include: quilt walks, square dance, loom weaving, birdhouse making, beer crawl, photo workshop, storytelling and more.
The region, once the home to a thriving timber and coal business during the late 1800s and early 1900s, now serves as one of the nations’ major outdoor recreation hubs. Today, many of the historic buildings have new occupants who offer visitors lodging, West Virginia arts and crafts, antiques, gifts, fine food and beverage establishments, as well as guides and gear.
“Our goal is to keep telling the story of Tucker County’s unique community through events like ArtSpring,” Waldo said.
