Supervisor sought for after-school program

ELKINS — A free after-school program that will serve middle school students in Randolph County in the upcoming school year is in search of a program supervisor.

The Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission, in partnership with the Randolph County Family Resource Network and Davis and Elkins College, is seeking a responsible, personable, and dynamic person to fill the position of supervisor of the ENGAGE after school program at the Phil Gainer Community Center, according to Chris Lee, PGCC facility manager.

“Thanks to a collaborative community effort, we will be launching ENGAGE After-school this fall and it will be free for all middle school age youth,” Lee said. “That said, we’ve got some work to do this summer to ensure we’re on track to launch a successful product — and a big part of that bit is securing the right individual to take on the role of program supervisor.”

Program participants will be able to engage with sports, art, music and tutoring on a daily basis. Additional programming on various topics will be offered once or twice a week by outside presenters, as well as a monthly special event. The program is open to middle school students from 2:30-5:30 p.m. each day of the school year.

The supervisor’s duties will include supervising staff and participants, scheduling four part-time employees and general onsite program management/logistics.

“The person who takes on this role will have a special opportunity to be part of a new program that we truly believe can institute social change in the region by enriching the lives of participants and preparing them for the world they are growing into,” Lee said. “It is my hope that the right candidate will be drawn to this inherent value.”

Preferred qualifications for this position include educational and/or work experience in the fields of education, youth leadership or human services. Applicants must be certified in first aid and CPR, complete a background check and pass a drug screening prior to employment (all provided).

FRN Director Rebecca Vance said, “We look forward to finding an energetic candidate that will join our team and provide new perspective to this program and help us ensure ENGAGE After school is everything it can be.”

The wage for this position is $10 per hour. Potential applicants should contact Lee at 304-591-1410 or clee@cityofelkinswv.com.
