Women’s group set to present political forum

ELKINS — A local women’s group is preparing for a forum next month that will allow for citizens to hear from candidates.

From 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Elkins High School auditorium, the forum will be hosted by the Randolph County Democratic Women’s Club and Randolph County Chapter of West Virginia Education Association.

Carol Cain Bush, president of the Randolph County Democratic Women’s Club, said the candidates invited to the forum include Laura Finch, D-Pocahontas, and Bill Hamilton, R-Upshur, from the District 11 State Senate race. Additionally, William “Ty” Nestor, R-Randolph; Mike House, R-Randolph; Bill Hartman, D-Randolph; and Cody Thompson, D-Randolph, were invited to participate from the 43rd District House of Delegates race.

“We’re interested in getting the vote up. We are encouraging participation in the process and encouraging people to make an educated decision,” Bush said. “The toughest part is going to be coming up with questions. We want to know what questions people in this community wants answered.”

Bush added those in attendance will be permitted to submit questions to be answered, in timed responses, by the candidates.
