Elkins High teacher receives state honor

ELKINS — Penni Harris, an Elkins High School teacher, received the 2018 WV Make it Shine Environmental Teacher of the Year Award for Intermediate Grades on Oct. 29. One teacher per grade school grade levels (elementary, intermediate and secondary) was selected from across the state, making Harris one in three across the state.

“This award was in reflection of the club I initiated at Elkins Middle School called EMS Make it Shine to reflect the positive impact and work that Elkins Make It Shine has had on our community,” Harris said..

“I’ve very proud and proud of the work completed by students of this club last year. A big thank you to Melodee Price for thinking of me and more so for nominating me for this award,” states Harris.

As part of receiving the award Harris received a personal grant and Elkins Middle School Make it Shine Club received a $1,000 grant to use for STEM projects.
