Morrisey tops in Pendleton

FRANKLIN — Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey proved popular with Pendleton County voters Tuesday as he topped Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., in votes within the county at 1,471, or 58.7 percent, to Manchin’s 944, or 37.67 percent.

Libertarian candidate Rusty Hollen received 91 votes in the U.S. senatorial race within Pendleton County.

Democrat Carole Hartman, who was running unopposed for a Pendleton County Commission seat, won office with 1,892 votes, or 100 percent of the vote.

In the 11th Senatorial District race, within Pendleton County, Republican Bill Hamilton garnered 1,601 votes, or 66.17 percent, while Democrat Laura Finch received 820 votes, or 33.83 percent.

In the 55th Delegate District race, Democrat Isaac Sponaugle of Franklin received 1,092 votes, or 60.07 percent, while Republican Jon Hof of Wardensville tallied 726 votes, or 39.93 percent.

Republican John Paul Hott, running unopposed for the 54th Delegate District seat, received 581 votes, or 100 percent of the vote, in Pendleton County.

Incumbent Republican Alex Mooney came out on top in the 2nd Congressional District race in Pendleton County, totaling 1,619 votes, or 66.16 percent, while Democrat challenger Talley Sergent earned 782, or 31.96 percent. Mountain Party candidate Daniel P. “Danny” Lutz Jr. totaled 46 votes in Pendleton.

Amendment No. 1, the “No Constitutional Right to Abortion Amendment,” was popular in Pendleton, winning 1,316 votes, or 57.49 percent, while 973 votes, or 42.51 percent, were cast against the amendment proposal.

Amendment No. 2, the “Judicial Budget Oversight Amendment,” had overwhelming support in the county, winning 1,483 votes, or 71.85 percent, while 581 votes, or 28.15 percent, against the proposal were cast.

Pendleton County saw a 51.02 voter turnout in the general election, as 2,548 of 4,994 registered voters cast ballots. The voting totals will be considered unofficial until they are canvassed by county officials.
