ELKINS — Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats hosted their monthly meeting on Nov. 12 at the New China Cook Restaurant in Elkins.

Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting. Duchesses for the meeting Included Debbie Fortney, Nancy White, Mary Lou Irwin, Lorna Semmler and Wanda Price.

Past Queen Charlotte Thomas presided over a ceremony to honor Queen Mother Carolyn Lewis who passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 23. Thomas said a few words to honor Lewis and lit a candle at a place setting at the Queen Mother’s table where she would have been seated. All Purple Majesties then observed a moment of silence and repeated the Lord’s Prayer together.

The duchesses used a patriotic theme for decorations and favors for Veteran’s Day. A moment of silence was observed to honor the men and women who bravely served in the Armed Forces,

November birthdays were announced and members serenaded birthday Majesties Connie Collins and Brenda Miller on their kazoos. The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie. After the meal was blessed members enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch. Prize tickets were announced and lucky winners received some lovely door prizes.

The December Purple Majesties meeting will be held on Monday evening, Dec. 10, at the Elks Club. This is the annual Christmas dinner and will begin with social hour at 4 p.m., with a traditional turkey dinner to follow.

All former queen mothers are asked to meet at 2 p.m. Dec. 9, at the Elks Club to help decorate for this special Christmas event.

The group will be participating in the Toys for Tots toy drive again this year and members are reminded to bring their gifts for the children.

If you would like to join the fun loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the December meeting, call Queen Mother McKenzie at 304-636-8652 or 304-614-3079.
