ELKINS — Something new is brewing in Elkins, and it isn’t just the weather. TipTop Coffee started in Thomas and has now opened a new location in downtown Elkins.

“It is always exciting to train new staff,” said Grace Lawson manager of TipTop, located on Third Street. “It’s something that I am very passionate about, as well as coffee education.”

Lawson has been with the company since August of 2018 but has been in the industry for four years specializing in specialty coffees as a barista and educator.

“Another passion of mine is building community,” said Lawson. “I have only been in the Elkins community for a short time but I already love it here.”

Owners Cade and Carrie Archuleta started in the coffee business in 2010, opening the first TipTop in 2012.

“It’s such an awesome thing to see,” Cade Archuleta said. “When we started in Thomas we were like, let’s go big with coffee, cocktails, chocolate and a bakery. That has been very good for Thomas, but for Elkins there is already good food and some good bars so let’s just do a classic coffee shop, with experimenting with different drinks and teas.”

TipTop boasts a variety of hand-crafted coffee drinks, as well as nitro coffee which is a cold brew coffee infused with nitrogen. Along with the cold brew, Kambucha, lattes are offered in rotating flavors, with the first being a latte infused with Homestead Creamery and espresso, with possibly iced tea in the nitrogen taps.

The shop also has four CO2 taps they hope to fill with sparkling water and local favorite Big Timber root beer, with the possibility of local beers in the future. The coffee shop also offers a variety of other drinks, including teas and other infused drinks, along with a host of pastries that are homemade.

TipTop, being a West Virginia company, also knows the value of community.

“We’re excited to be a place where people can meet and get on their laptop or even just meet up with their friends and have a spot for the community. We found it works in Thomas as we have become like a third space for people, like a community living room,” Cade Archuleta said. “That is something we are proud to provide to the community and what I have found I love to do for communities to serve them.”

TipTop is located at 125 Third Street in Elkins. Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
