ELKINS — The Randolph County Board of Education celebrated two county employees Tuesday for their exemplary work during the 2018-19 school year.

Assistant Superintendent Debbie Schmidlen said all employees who were nominated for service personnel employee and teacher of the year are valued by the county school system.

“This is a very special time for Randolph County Schools as we get to recognize the special people in our buildings, and I wish we could recognize even more (employees),” she said.

Barbara Green, teacher at Tygarts Valley Middle-High School, was named Teacher of the Year, and Jennifer Markley, employee at North Elementary School, was named Service Personnel Employee of the Year.

RCS Director of Personnel Denise Fletcher noted individuals are nominated by someone from their respective school. Once all nominations are received, a committee from the county office reviews submitted information from each of the nominees.

In addition to the two recipients, several other county employees were nominated for these honors.

Those nominated for service personnel employee of the year include the following: Joseph Kyle, Savannah Marstiller, Andrea Corley, Angela Lewis, Cathy Lindsay, Richard Rosencrance, Jennifer Wanless, Jeffrey White, Dennis McLaughlin, Tammy Lothes and Stacey Longbon.

“We all depend on our service personnel to help make our schools run effectively and efficiently, as well as our bus drivers, who are out in terrible weather bringing those kids to us safely everyday and take them home safely everyday,” Schmidlen said.

Those nominated for teacher of the year include the following: Nicole Currence, Kelly Judy, Crystal Bible, Kayla White, LeighAnn Hoffman, Natalie Josimovich, Dottie Parli, Sarah Wamsley, Kristen Pennington and Courtney Price.

“It’s nice to see a variety of academic spots in the nomination — we have elementary teachers, we have high school teachers — we just have a lot of different folks who are stepping up to the plate,” Schmidlen said.

A reception was held Tuesday evening to honor all nominees.
