Firefighters Respond to Elementary School

The Inter-Mountain photo by Amanda Hayes The Buckhannon Fire Department responded to Buckhannon Academy Elementary School for a report of a structure fire shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. ‘There was no fire, just light smoke,’ Lt. Linn Baxa said. ‘A light ballast burned up in the boiler room. We identified what the problem was and checked to make sure there were no extensions.’ Students were evacuated from BAES to Chapel Hill UMC and then returned shortly after the scene was cleared. Although Adrian and Warren District VFDS were initially paged out per protocol, only Buckhannon responded to the scene with apparatus as other units were turned back.
