ELKINS — The Randolph County Humane Society hosted a ribbon cutting for the organization’s new meet-and-greet building at the annual RCHS meeting this week.

The building, named for the late Dick Earle, provides a home-like setting for potential adopters to meet animals. In addition to that, the building is also wheelchair accessible for those who can’t comfortably travel to the cat and dog rooms.

The president of the organization, Tina Vial, spoke to attendees at the meeting Tuesday evening.

“We are always looking for ways to increase our adoptions,” Vial said. “As we thought about ways to do that, we realized we wanted a place where potential adopters can meet and greet the pets they are considering in a home-like atmosphere rather than through a kennel door.”

Vial, along with Jenna Lee, the RCHS vice president of outreach, and Jane Smith, Earle’s life partner, cut the ribbon to the new building in front of the board members.

The building was dedicated to Earle because he supported the Humane Society so heavily in life and left such a generous donation behind, officials said.

The shelter is operated through donations like these from the community. The animals housed at the RCHS require about 500 pounds of food each week and many necessary activities are completed by volunteers at the shelter.
