Local pastor plans book signing

ELKINS — Local youth pastor and author Bobby Benavides will host a book reading and signing at the Delmonte Market on Nov. 2nd from 1-4 p.m.

Benavides was born and raised in California but moved to West Virginia in 2003 to serve with World Vision in Philippi.

“I fell in love with the state, fell in love with the people and felt led to continue serving and doing youth ministry,” said Benavides.

Benavides has published two books, “Made for More: A Journey of Discovery” and “Purpose, and Searching for More: A 15 Day Devotional Journey.”

“I’m a very unconventional, nontraditional Christian in a sense. I wasn’t raised in the church so that means I kind of reference the things that people don’t think a pastor would reference,” said Benavides, who uses pop-culture aspects in his writing.

Benavides is also working on upcoming books, one titled “Leading with H.O.P.E.(Humility, Observing those you work with, Practicing what you expect them to do, and Empowerment).”

This new book will hopefully be available by 2020 but at the moment, Benavides is working with his new church, New Community Church Elkins, in the Phil Gainer Community Center.

Benavides met his wife while pursuing his undergraduate education at Alderson-Broaddus College. They have two children.

He enjoys challenging followers of Christ to think about how they engage with culture and how they live out their faith in their community and beyond.

For more questions about the book signing, contact the Delmonte Market at 304-636-4400. To speak with Benavides about his works, he has a contact page on his blog, bobbybenavides.me.
