‘Vibrant’ Chamber awards dinner set

Studer

ELKINS — The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce is planning a “vibrant” evening around its annual awards dinner on Thursday, with special guest speaker Quint Studer.

Author of “Building a Vibrant Community,” a book that was shared with many Elkins businesses and organizations last year, Studer has already been influencing Elkins remotely — so much so that his attendance next week is a gift from James W. “Jay” Wallace of Allegheny Insurance Services and Marsha and Mark Doak of the Common Door.

“I would say that this year is kind of extra exciting because our speaker, Quint Studer, is not only presenting at the dinner, but he’s literally spending 36 hours in Elkins, getting to know our community and the people that make up our citizenry and helping us to form a long-term plan to move Elkins forward into becoming the vibrant community we all know it can be,” Lisa Wood, executive director for the ERCCC, said.

While he’s here, Studer will host “A Vibrant Conversation” workshop at 11 a.m. Thursday on the Davis & Elkins College campus.

“I think Quint is kind of taking the information that he got from the (online ERCCC) survey that about 240 people participated in,” she said. “He’s taking all of that information and he’s analyzing it and bringing that with him using … what he learned from the survey, which is kind of our hopes and dreams and opinions of where we are and where we want to be.”

The “A Vibrant Celebration” ERCCC awards dinner will begin at 5:30 Thursday with a social hour. The event will be hosted at the Phil Gainer Community Center in Elkins.

“We’re thrilled every year to honor businesses, organizations and community members who have done extraordinary things for Randolph County,” said Wood.

The awards will include Business of the Year, Business Man and Woman of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, Educator of the Year, Young Leader of the Year and Citizen of the Year.

“In addition, the Tom Williams Award of Distinction will be presented to an individual for lifetime achievement in service to the community,” reads a press release from the Chamber.

Sponsors for this event include Davis Health System, FirstEnergy, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, Anytime Fitness, Mountaineer Insurance Services, Davis & Elkins College, Kathy’s Decorating and Design, Sherwin Williams, Pack n Ship, Davis Trust Company, The Inter-Mountain and Citizens Bank of West Virginia.

The “Vibrant Conversation” Workshop is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Benedum Center at D&E. The cost is $25 per person. For more information about the workshop or the awards dinner, contact the Chamber at 304-636-2717 or email chamber@erccc.com.
