Officer shot in downtown Elkins

According to a statement from the City of Elkins, Sayre was transported to Morgantown by helicopter with non-life threatening injuries.

ELKINS — An Elkins police officer was shot in downtown Elkins and a suspect was taken into custody Thursday evening.

A press release from the City of Elkins at 8:49 p.m. Thursday reads, “An Elkins police officer received non-life-threatening injuries while effecting an arrest tonight around 7:30 p.m.

“Senior Patrolman Daniel Sayre, age 25 and an Elkins Police Department officer since 2015, was shot and is being transported by helicopter to Morgantown.

A suspect is in custody.”
