The Barbour County Community Garden Market is a division of Heart and Hand House Ministries, and is located at 107 S. Main St. in Philippi. Essentially a farmer’s market, the Garden Market provides nutritious, wholesome locally-grown food products and meats, locally hand-made crafts, bulk goods and daily Grab and Go food.

Ron Wilson is a West Virginia University graduate in agricultural education and has more than 35 years of experience teaching agriculture education and animal processing. The market’s telephone number is 304-457-5774 and e-mail address is ron@heartandhandhouse.org. They are on the web at Heartandhandhouse.org.

The Market Place was featured as one of West Virginia’s Top Ten Farmers Markets by American Towns Media, which covers parks, restaurants, outdoor recreation areas and tourist destinations. The market opened in 2017 with 120 vendors and crafters.

The Used Car Company of Philippi is also the location for Wilsons Auto and Licensing Services and is located on U.S. 250 just south of Philippi. Their logo is, “We don’t sell the most, we sell the best.” The business was founded in 1997 by W. Fred Wilson and his son, Tony, and offers complete garage services, including mechanical work, auto repair, state inspections, oil changes, brakes, exhaust and shock absorber servicing by a full-time certified mechanic.

“Every car is inspected, and serviced if necessary,” said Wilson. While the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicle offices are closed during the pandemic, The Used Car Company and Wilson licensing services is the only location in Barbour County offering year-round title and car license service and is considered an “essential service” allowed during the pandemic.

Tony Wilson was born and raised in Parsons, graduated from Philip Barbour High School and was employed for more than 15 years at Philippi’s Builder’s Center.

He is currently a member of the Philippi City Council. The telephone at the Used Car Company is 304-457-3500.
