Elkins man, woman facing drug charges
ELKINS — An Elkins man and woman are facing felony charges after a routine traffic stop.
Donald Eugene Heckler, 48, and Peggy Sue Heckler, 55, both of Elkins, are each charged with possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy. Bond was set at $25,000 cash for each of them by Randolph County Magistrate Ben Shepler.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Senior Patrolman R.A. Summerfield of the Elkins Police Department, officers pulled over a blue Pontiac G6 on Davis Avenue on Oct. 18 for having no registration lights. Donald Heckler, who was driving, gave officers permission to search the vehicle.
Peggy Heckler, one of three passengers in the vehicle, had on her person a container carrying eight individually wrapped yellow baggies containing a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine, and four individually wrapped red baggies containing a methamphetamine-like substance, the complaint states. Inside her purse, a metal container had a yellow baggie with a brown powdery substance consistent with heroin.
Also during the search of the vehicle, a Jennings Firearms .22 caliber pistol was found in the back seat, according to the complaint.
Summerfield wrote that Donald Heckler “stated during the duration of the stop that he would ‘take the fall for the dope.'”
Both Hecklers are being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
