BEVERLY — Organizers have accepted the challenge of creating a safe community Christmas celebration during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the family friendly holiday event will be unveiled this weekend.

Beverly’s 2020 Old Fashioned Christmas celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. In order to have a Christmas celebration that is safe for visitors, the activities will take place outdoors under the tent on the Beverly Heritage Center patio.

“This year’s Old Fashioned Christmas isn’t our normal celebration, but there is nothing quite as ‘old fashioned’ as spreading Christmas cheer and joy to children,” said Amanda Reese, interim marketing director for the Beverly-Randolph Heritage Tourism CVB. “We have had an outpouring of support from our local businesses, organizations, individuals, and volunteers for this project! This has truly been a community effort, and everyone is excited to see this happen.”

The Beverly Heritage Center will be reaching out to younger generations during this year’s celebration. The Center has been able to put together children’s goodie bags in partnership with the Beverly Bookmobile, WVU Extension Service, the Town of Beverly and many other individuals and businesses.

Volunteers from the Beverly Bookmobile will be set up at the Beverly Heritage Center from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. handing out childrens books with the BHC goodie bags, while supplies last.

Visitors to the Center Saturday can also shop at the Usborne Books & More Book Fair that benefits the new Beverly Public Library. They can also pick up a take-out soup and sandwich lunch from the ladies of the Beverly Presbyterian Church.

The day will end with a tree lighting in the Beverly Town Square at 5 p.m. Admission to the Beverly Heritage Center is free during this event, and visitors will be required to wear a face covering while inside the building.

The Beverly Heritage Center is located in the heart of historic Beverly at 4 Court Street. Please call 304-637-7424 or email info@beverlyheritagecenter.org for more information.
