Sprout Into Spring event to assist paying for future activities

The Inter-Mountain photo by Edgar Kelley Volunteer Linda Shomo displays some of the Sprout Into Spring hand-painted flowers that went up for sale in front of Davis Trust Company on Saturday.

ELKINS — The colorful trail of flowers that blossomed around Elkins’ downtown streets the past several weeks were taken down Saturday afternoon.

The flowers, which were part of this year’s Sprout Into Spring celebration, were sold at a cost of $10 to help fund any future projects by Our Town Inc., who organized the event.

“We did very well in selling all but eight of the flowers,” said Our Town Inc. volunteer Bobbi Trimboli. “There were over 90 flowers on display and we really appreciate the community members who came out and bought them. It was an amazing turnout.”

The sale took place in front of Davis Trust Company Bank on Davis Avenue, and in front of the former Henry G’s Cafe on Third Street. During the first two hours of the sale, the flower designers had the opportunity to purchase their own pieces of work.

The remaining then went up for sale to the general public and all but eight of the 90-plus flowers were purchased by the end of the day.

Our Town, Inc., who also organized the scarecrow event in the fall and the gnomes at Christmas this past year in downtown Elkins, will use the proceeds for future upcoming events.

“The money we took in is really going to help us plan our upcoming events,” said Trimboli. “It’s going to help us get started on some things for both fall and winter that we didn’t have a budget for.”

For information on purchasing any of the remaining flowers, call 304-636-0415.
