Vaccinations available at clinic Thursday

ELKINS — Local health officials announced on Tuesday that vaccinations can be scheduled for Thursday’s Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Phil Gainer Community Center by calling the Elkins-Randolph County Health Department.

In the past appointments were made only by calls going out to residents, but for this week only, citizens can call in and set up an appointment for the clinic. The number to call is 304-636-0396.

“There are appointments available for Thursday for anyone 16 years old and over,” said Bonnie Woodrum, the Randolph-Elkins Health Department’s infectious disease specialist. “We are trying to fill the appointments and using the Everbridge list, but we are falling short in filling all the appointments. So if people want to call the Health Department we can get them on the list.”

Woodrum also said this may be the last week that the clinic at the PGCC will be administering first doses, or prime doses as they are known.

“We will not be doing first doses at our community clinic next week or maybe ever again,” Woodrum said. “But there will be opportunities for people to get the first vaccination within Randolph County because it will be available at other places. We will only be doing boost doses at the clinic for the next three or four weeks. So if they want to get in on the community clinic they need to give us a call.”

This week’s local Mass Vaccination Clinic will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
