Community Cakewalks raising funds

ELKINS — The winner of the biggest prize at the most recent Citizens Creating Community Cakewalk donated her winnings to the Elkins Police Department.
Cristin Dusenbury was the winner of the Executive Walk at the June 18 event, which raised more than $560 in support of the Old Brick Playhouse.
The next Elkins Community Cakewalk is set for Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Citizens Bank of West Virginia’s customer parking lot, with entertainment provided by Axis Studio.
The event will also include a children’s walk, featuring toys and other prizes. All proceeds from Friday’s event will benefit the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA.
The charity cakewalks, which have been planned for the first and third Fridays of June, July and August, are the creation of Citizens Creating Community, an informal group of volunteers.
The first event in the cakewalk series was held June 4.The event raised $786.26, which was donated to the Tygart Valley United Way.
