Buckhannon Community Theatre raises the curtain again

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon Community Theatre is proud to announce its 50th anniversary season. After a brief intermission due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Buckhannon Community Theatre is ready to raise the curtain once more.

The 2021 Season will consist of “Clue on Stage” and “BCT: A 50th Golden Anniversary Celebration.”

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Parker Brothers board game, “Clue” is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu.

“Clue” will run from Oct. 28-31 at the Colonial Arts Center. Auditions are forthcoming. This will be the first presentation at the fully-renovated Colonial Arts Center. Be a part of this historical event and purchase tickets starting Aug. 1 at www.buckhannoncommunitytheatre.com.

The Golden Anniversary Event will celebrate 50 years of entertainment in Buckhannon. Buckhannon Community Theatre produced its first show in the summer of 1971 with Irving Berlin’s musical, “Annie, Get Your Gun.”

Spawned by the efforts of Buckhannon-Upshur High School students and the high school’s vocal music teacher and choir director, James Knorr, BCT took to the stage for the first time with the production that began as an effort to continue to have musical theater shows during the summer months in addition to the musical shows that were produced at the high school each spring.

The effort was successful, and half a century later BCT is still serving the community with several events a year and has become one of the staples of the local arts community. This event will celebrate the theatre’s history and the future with performances from the vast catalog of shows with the original casts, as well as special guests and the awarding of the second Jim Knorr award. Tickets for the show, banquet, and other programming are forthcoming.
