Country Roads Transit offers new route serving veterans
ELKINS — Country Roads Transit is providing a new service route that provides transportation for both veterans and the general public to the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg and the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
The new service, known as the VA/Clarksburg Area Medical Route, is currently in operation.
“We are so excited to be filling a tremendous need in both Randolph and Upshur counties by transporting veterans and the general public to the Clarksburg VA medical center and United Health Center in Bridgeport,” Country Roads Transit Manager Tracie Thompson said.

The new route is available two days each week, alternating from Monday and Wednesday the first week, to Tuesday and Thursday the following week. There is a nominal fee for the service. Seating is limited.
This service is by appointment only and requires at least a two business-day notice. The VA/Clarksburg Area Route van is wheelchair-lift equipped.
Randolph County residents can board the Country Roads van at 6:30 a.m. at the Randolph County Senior Center in Elkins and will return at 5 p.m.
Upshur County residents can board the van at the pick-up and return location at the Buckhannon Lowe’s parking lot. Pick up time is 7 a.m. and will return to Buckhannon at 4 p.m.
The following dates are the days of service for August:
First week: Monday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Second week: Tuesday, Aug. 10 and Thursday, Aug. 12.
Third week: Monday, Aug. 16 and Wednesday, Aug. 18.
Fourth week: Tuesday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 26.
Country Roads Transit is entering its 15th year of service in Randolph and Upshur counties and continues to provide transportation services to the general public, including all senior citizens, adults and children within both counties.
