Jones joins faculty at D&E

Dr. Andrew Jones

ELKINS — Dr. Andrew Jones has been appointed assistant professor of communication at Davis & Elkins College. Beginning with the fall 2021 semester, he is instructing courses in public speaking, argumentation, interpersonal communication and public relations.

“Dr. Jones’ teaching experience and wide range of academic interests are a welcome addition to the Davis & Elkins College faculty,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rob Phillips. “His work in the field of communication and interest in interdisciplinary projects will certainly strengthen the quality of our academic programming and better prepare our students for professional success and thoughtful involvement in their communities.”

Jones brings experience as an educator, public speaker and author. Before joining the D&E faculty, he served as an assistant professor in the Communication Department at LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania, where he taught advanced, intermediate and introductory level courses and received the Faculty Award for Excellence. Prior to that, Jones was director of forensics in the Department of Communication and an adjunct instructor at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. While working on his Ph.D., he instructed advanced and introductory courses at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

As an author, his work has been published in Baltic Journal of Law & Politics, Studies of Communication in the 2016 Presidential Campaign, International Encyclopedia of Interpersonal Communication and Quarterly Journal of Speech.

In addition, Jones has delivered numerous public lectures and conference presentations in the U.S. and Europe.

“I am excited to join the D&E faculty here in wonderful West Virginia,” Jones said. “I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and contributing to the vibrant community of Elkins. The only thing more inspiring than the mountains visible from every corner of this campus are the bright, funny, motivated students who make this campus hum with energy.”

Jones earned a Ph.D. in communication studies from Louisiana State University. He holds a Master of Arts degree in communication from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and speech from Hillsdale College in Michigan. He is a member of the National Communication Association, Rhetoric Society of America, Rhetoric Society of Europe and European Communication Research and Education Association.
