Elkins Main Street seeking community input in new survey

ELKINS — Local officials are seeking community input on what kind of restaurants, businesses and housing the town of Elkins needs.

Elkins Main Street is conducting an online survey “to identify and profile the types of eating and drinking places and retail establishments that could be prime for expansion and recruitment to serve Elkins better, and to gauge demand for new and rehabilitated housing in the downtown area,” a press release states.

“There are places of opportunity in downtown Elkins for expanding current businesses and welcoming new businesses. This tool will assist Elkins Main Street and other partners in presenting the possibilities Elkins has to offer, while sharing what the community wants with prospective businesses,” said Madalyn Higgins, director of Elkins Main Street. “This valuable information could be the turning point for a prospective new business in Elkins.”

The program involves a market snapshot and a community input survey. The Market Snapshot identifies the market potential and details of regional demographics, and can be found on downtownelkins.com/downtown-survey/.

The survey is available by going to https://4eyes.io/s/7k3kA/. Elkins Main Street will be collecting responses until Oct. 19. Survey results will be released Nov. 5 on social media.

“Elkins Main Street will use the input to help promote development opportunities, to profile business candidates, and to fine-tune our business retention, expansion, and recruitment strategies,” the press release states.

“Utilizing our updated secondary market data, a project team has come up with several potential business types to target in the Top Prospects Survey,” the release continues. “This is a chance to collect responses of what the community wants and what the community will support in Elkins. This survey only takes about six minutes to complete, and all information is collected anonymously. A wider response set will provide the best results.”
