Suddenlink sees Christmas cable, internet outage

ELKINS — An internet and cable television outage on Christmas Day affected residents in Elkins and Beverly, lasting through Sunday and up to presstime Sunday night.

Suddenlink customers in those areas experienced an outage at about 5:20 p.m. Christmas Day. Suddenlink representatives said at the time that the outage was created by a fiberoptics problem, and that internet, cable and phone services would be back up and running by 8 p.m.

The outage continued, however, and customers were told the services would be restored by 1 a.m. The outage continued through the night, however, and services were finally restored at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Customers then reported that Suddenlink services went down again just before 4 p.m. Sunday, and remained down as of presstime Sunday evening.

At 9:45 p.m., a Suddenlink representative said a “fiber optic break” in the Elkins area was being repaired by service technicians, and that services should be restored by 2 a.m. Monday.

“We are still working to resolve this issue,” the representative said. “We appreciate your patience.”

Shentel internet customers in Barbour County were also without service through the day Sunday and into Sunday evening.
